The short explanation of this alert was:
Child welfare advocates, faith organizations and social justice groups have once again turned their full attention to Tallahassee in an effort to ensure that the "best interest of the child" is the primary consideration in adoption placement decisions.
Democrats and Republicans alike believe the current policy, which prohibits qualified gay and lesbian parents from adopting, should be repealed. Responsibility lies squarely on the shoulders of Florida legislators to see that the best interest of the child is the only criteria guiding adoption decisions.
Contact the Senate Committee on Children and Families and demand that they support Senator Nan Rich's bill (SB172), which would allow gay and lesbian parents to adopt on a case-by-case basis.
