Channel 8 to Air Homophobic Infomercial Tonight

We need you to speak out IMMEDIATELY against this paid campaign of lies before the program airs on WFLA Channel 8, the local NBC station in the Tampa Bay area.

This ugly infomercial is filled with outrageous, bigoted, and long disproved claims about the LGBT community.   It highlights a parade of right wing speakers talking about gay conversion therapy and describes our families as diseased and dangerous.

Other networks in Michigan and Ohio have refused to air this dangerous and misleading piece of homophobic propaganda, but not this station.  Instead WFLA NBC 8 is choosing to make money off the demonization and dehumanization of LGBT people in Tampa Bay by running this 60 minute paid program.

To add insult to injury, they've chosen to air this hateful piece on the same day as St. Pete Pride, the largest pride celebration in Florida. So, while tens of thousands are celebrating diversity and inclusion, WFLA will be broadcasting homophobia. It is an outrageous attack on our families.

We cannot let this bigotry go unanswered.

Contact the Channel 8 assignment desk NOW and demand that they pull this dangerous piece off the air.

Subject: Do Not Air Homophobic Program

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to request that your station not air "Silencing Christians" tonight.

This program goes far beyond offering an opinion.

This ugly infomercial is filled with outrageous, bigoted, and long disproved claims about the LGBT community. Which is why other networks across the country have refused to air it.

To add insult to injury, your station is airing this hateful piece on the same day as St. Pete Pride, the largest pride celebration in Florida. So, while tens of thousands are celebrating diversity and inclusion, WFLA will be broadcasting homophobia. It is an outrageous attack on our families.

As a concerned viewer and local resident I strongly urge your station not to air hate speech propaganda. Keep Tampa Bay safe for all citizens, pull the plug on "Silencing Christians"

Sincerely,

Campaign Launched:

Background Information

Contact NBC 8 right now and tell them not to run this horrendous program.

Tonight at 7pm - unless we act RIGHT NOW- NBC 8, WFLA, is planning to air Silencing Christians- a one-hour anti-LGBT propaganda piece designed to "reveal the truth about the radical homosexual agenda."

This ugly infomercial is filled with outrageous, bigoted, and long disproved claims about the LGBT community.   It highlights a parade of right wing speakers talking about gay conversion therapy and describes our families as diseased and dangerous.

Just as we are on the cusp of historic change - a federal hate crimes law, protections for LGBT workers against job discrimination - extremist groups like the AFA are launching a well-funded national campaign of hatred and fear to halt our progress.

This program recycles familiar lies: that hate crime laws will "do away with our freedom of speech," or that pastors will be "criminalized for sharing the love of Jesus Christ."  (In fact, the proposed federal hate crimes law explicitly states that it only applies to physical violence - not speech.)
