Marriage Pledge
If passed the so-called "marriage amendment" amendment would permanently ban the legal recognition of marriage or civil unions for same-sex partners and threatens to strip away domestic partnership benefits currently enjoyed by thousands of partners, gay and straight, in Florida.
We urge you to sign the Pledge to Vote NO and spread the word to your family, friends, neighbors and membership. Ask them to also sign the pledge and vote against any law that discriminates against same-sex relationships.

All families, including same-sex families, deserve equal access to the rights and responsibilities of marriage.

These mean-spirited opponents of equality have gathered at least 455,000 signatures, falling far short of the 611,000 signatures needed to put this initiative on the 2006 ballot. But the legislature can move the amendment onto the ballot this year. Alternatively, each of the collected petitions can be counted toward the 2008 ballot.
Equality Florida will be viligant in Tallahassee, working with our allies to ensure the legislature doesn't push their discriminatory amendment. Through Fairness for ALL Families, we will undertake an enormous public education campaign to inform Floridians about the real harm this law would do to real people.
Our most immediate concern is this: the far-right has half-a-million people they can mobilize on a moments notice to support other anti-gay, anti-equality initiatives. We must build our own legislative power base as the far-right has done. We must match their effort, voter-for-voter.
We have set an ambitious goal of identifying 600,000 Floridians who believe in equality and Fairness for ALL Families.
