Greetings,
Yesterday, Secretary of the Interior Ken
Salazar took an important step to protect the Grand Canyon for future generations. He
decided to segregate for two years over one million acres of
land adjacent to the Grand Canyon National Park and its
watersheds to protect the Canyon and the Southwest's
water supply from the ravages of uranium mining. That
decision allows proponents of the Grand Canyon Watersheds
Protection Act (HR 644), sponsored by Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Az)
and Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Az), the time needed to get the
legislation passed and provide permanent protection for this
iconic national park
This decision was not without controversy and
it's important we let the Secretary know we appreciate his
efforts. Please take the time to call or email Secretary Salazar
and thank him for protecting the Grand
Canyon.
