Last week the Assembly Appropriations Committee held SB 452 in the Appropriations Committee, essentially killing the bill for the year.
This important bill requires a real assessment of whether California needs more liquefied natural gas "LNG" to meet our energy needs before we grant licenses to build LNG plants in California. LNG plants are very controversial and environmentally dangerous. This bill simply requires that a need for such plants be established before we allow any to be built. Please call, write, or send an email today to Speaker Nunez and Assembly Appropriations Chair, Mark Leno, urging them to "move the bill" to the Assembly floor for a vote.
If this bill cannot be passed this year before big energy companies put more and more into LNG plant planning, it will be too late to do anything to first determine whether California even needs to consider the construction of such massive projects.
This bill is so important that Green California, an umbrella group representing Sacramento's key environmental lobbyists, has listed it as one of its top Senate environmental bills of the year.
