If you get sick, do you want the best treatments available? California State Bill, SB-583 will decriminalize the alternative treatments for cancer in California, when provided by licensed physicians (MD/DO).
Laws should protect citizens' right of choice regarding the health and medical therapies they decide is best for them and the laws should protect qualified practitioners' choice to provide the widest possible range of cancer therapies.
The California Health & Safety Code forbids any treatment for cancer other than chemotherapy, radiation or surgery. It was based on the belief that the diagnosis of cancer instantly rendered the person too emotionally distressed to make any rational decisions for their own health care and therefore needed their choices to be restricted by the state for their protection, thus suspending essential rights.
Citizens will again have legal access in California to innovative, evolving, alternative and natural health/healing modalities to prevent, treat or ameliorate cancer (some of which have been referred to as 'drugless'). Passage of SB-583 will eliminate the current two-tier system of cancer therapy, whereby those with sufficient disposable assets are able to travel to other sates and countries to get the latest in safe, effective alternative or complementary (a combination of alternative and allopathic) cancer treatments, while those without such assets are forced to accept only allopathic/conventional therapy which is chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.
