The Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
The short explanation of this alert was:
The recently finalized Farm Bill will provide more than $10 billion in new funding for federal nutrition programs over the next 10 years including $7.8 billion for the Food Stamp Program, $1.26 billion for the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and $1 billion for the free fresh fruits and vegetables snack program, which targets school children from low-income families.
More TEFAP money means CAFB has more food to provide to Partner Agencies. And with more money to support the Food Stamp Program, qualified Central Texans will not have to rely as much on pantries or the Food Bank for food.
A two-thirds majority was just secured in the House and the Senate showing wide bipartisan support for this important legislation! As expected, President Bush vetoed the bill. Ask your Congressperson to maintain the widespread support for the Farm Bill, and override the veto. This is our last chance to make a difference.
