Ohio, like many states across the United States, is working to combat shortages in subject areas such as math, science and special education. The teacher shortages in these areas and in school districts throughout Ohio will not subside without additional innovative options for individuals who want to teach. Career changers with strong knowledge of their subject matter should have the ability to enter the teaching profession without encountering unnecessary barriers. Let your state education committee members know that the American Board's Passport to Teaching program is available and can be an effective route to teacher certification. Passport to Teaching allows highly knowledgeable career changers the opportunity to become teachers. ABCTE partners with states and districts to recruit talented new teachers by providing resources and holding special events.
