Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Inactive -- Pesticide Action Network North America. The short explanation of this alert was: The toxic herbicide 2,4-D, commonly found in "weed & feed" consumer products is up for re-registration by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Write to EPA by Monday, March 14 to tell them to protect children by canceling use of this dangerous chemical!
Studies have linked 2,4-D to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, childhood leukemia, and childhood brain cancers. Recently exposure to lawns treated with 2,4-D has been associated with cancer in dogs. The herbicide is a common surface water contaminant and persists indoors, away from direct sunlight. One single application to turf and tracked indoors can be expected to linger in carpet for up to one year. Weed and feed formulations of 2,4-D are especially problematic because they encourage an application over the entire lawn area, rather than selective application to areas where weeds are present. Take Action: Email EPA and tell them to cancel 2,4-D weed and feed products! Read more about 2,4-D. For more information and an in-depth letter, visit the Beyond Pesticides website.
