The short explanation of this alert was:

 We Need Your Help TODAY!

For the University to realize its goals and continue to be an economic engine for the state, the University and the State of Minnesota must have a strong partnership. The University has put together a reasonable 2008-2009 biennial budget request, which includes $123.4 million in new state funding over the course of two years. This will allow the University to sustain the high level of quality and competitiveness that currently exists, as well as better position the University to contribute to the future economy of Minnesota. These investments will strongly support the University's goal of becoming one of the top public research universities in the world.

Governor Pawlenty is making important decisions that affect the U right now! With the start of the legislative session only than a month away, the governor is working to develop his recommendations for the state's biennial budget. Historically, legislators consider these recommendations when making decisions on the University's requests. Now is the time to urge Governor Pawlenty to support the exciting vision that President Bruininks as for the U and to make a strong investment in one of the state's greatest assets. Urge the governor to include full funding for the University's biennial budget request in his budget recommendations.

We need your help! Please send Governor Pawlenty a note to ask him to support full funding of the University of Minnesota's 2008-2009 biennial budget request.

Personal letters and e-mails are among the most effective ways to influence elected officials. We have provided sample e-mail texts below that you can use to help tailor your own letter. Remember to use your own stories and anecdotes about why the University is important to you.
