Civil Rights Lobby Days 2008

Throughout most of Florida, an employee can be fired for no other reason than for being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

Florida Rep. Kelly Skidmore (D-Boca Raton) has introduced legislation (HB. 191) to amend the Florida Civil Rights Act and Florida's Fair Housing Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.

Currently, the Florida Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination in employment only on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status. Florida's Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing and public accommodation based on race, color, national origin, sex, handicap, familial status, or religion. Tell me more

Talking Points

1 - Ask your Representatives to co-sponsor Rep. Skidmore's Civil Rights bill (HB. 191).

2 - Ask you Senator to sponsor a fully-inclusive companion Civil Right bill in the Florida Senate.
