The short explanation of this alert was:
Between May 15 - May 21, eat and drink only what $1 a meal (or $21 a week) can buy, which equals the average Food Stamp benefit for a week in Texas.
While you are taking the Challenge, we will provide you with:
- Tips and advice from the Food Bank's Registered Dietitian on how to stretch your food budget and eat healthfully during the Challenge;
- Resources for emergency food pantries and soup kitchens, should you need supplemental food during the Challenge;
- A place to share your daily experiences with others while taking the Challenge.

Day 4
Peanut butter sandwiches and milk are not as good as I remembered. Kinda of makes you appreciate your circumstances a little more. How could anyone be expected to live off of $3 a day? We wonder why the youth are obese, the only thing you can afford with this is junk.

It could be my imagination, but when I got up this morning and stood in front of the bathroom mirror, it seemed like I've already started to lose weight. I wasn't quite as hungry yesterday, so my body seems to be adjusting. If my calculations and estimates of costs are right, I should come in right at $3 for today's meals. I'm still continuing to take at least some of the vitamins I normally take, which I guess is not quite kosher, because those cause me to go over the $3/day. I had tuna for lunch the last two days, so I'm having peanut butter today, which means I'll be a bit extra hungry near the end of the work day, but I'm having an early dinner in preparation for going out, so I should be all right.
