We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health.

The short explanation of this alert was:

The Child Custody Protection Act (S.8)  makes it a federal crime for any person, other than a parent, to transport a pregnant minor across state lines for purposes of obtaining an abortion without meeting the parental notification or consent requirements of the minor’s home state.  There is no exception in the bill in cases where the health of a teen is at risk unless it is a life threatening situation. NLIRH believes that parents and teens should have open and honest communications about sex and that pregnant teens should seek out a trusted adult.  However, the reality is that for some Latinas, open and honest communication is not possible. Latinas need to know that they can turn to a trusted friend or adult in this distressing situation without fear of criminal penalty.

Contact your Senator and urge them to vote against CCPA, which threatens the health and well-being of young Latinas in your state.
