The short explanation of this alert was:

Change in Environmental Ministers May Imperil Pesticide Regulations

The historic Pesticide Code of Quebec's last phase is to be implemented on April 3, 2006. Mr. Thomas Mulcair, who was a staunch defender of the Pesticide Code of Quebec and the environment, has been replaced as the Minister of the Environment by Mr. Claude Bechard. Mr. Bechard used to be the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade. For the many people who worked hard on this Code, there is concern that Mr. Bechard will not uphold the stringent guidelines of this important regulatory policy.

Take Action Now! Let the new Minister know how much the Pesticide Code of Quebec and health protections through 'prevention' means to all of us in the world!

Your letter will contact the new Minister of the Environment urging him to:

  • keep 2,4-D on Quebec's list of banned active pesticide ingredients,
  • leave the Pesticide Code untouched and
  • implement the final phase of the Pesticide Code of Quebec, as scheduled, on April 3, 2006.

The Pesticide Code of Quebec is model regulatory policy, using the Precautionary Principle and protections of public health as fundamental guidelines. All communities can benefit from this visionary work from Quebec.
