PANNA: Pesticide Action Network North America

Campaign Unavailable

We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Inactive -- Pesticide Action Network North America.

The short explanation of this alert was:

In 1996, the U.S. Congress gave the EPA 10 years to complete its assessment of the health impacts of hundreds of pesticides that are still on the market and being used in homes, gardens and agriculture. The most acutely hazardous neurotoxic pesticides -- the organophosphates and carbamates -- were the first to be reviewed. August 3, 2006 marks the end of that 10-year period, yet more than 20 organophosphates and carbamate pesticides, including chlorpyrifos, methyl parathion, and diazinon have not been adequately tested.

Ask EPA Administrator Steven Johnson to follow the Food Quality Protection Act; and specifically halt continued use of these highly toxic pesticides based on ample evidence that they are too hazardous to be used safely.

Take Action Now!

Organophosphates and carbamates are highly toxic classes of pesticides used to kill insects. These chemicals are linked to cancer, neurological problems (including Parkinson's Disease), respiratory illness, and reproductive and developmental problems. Not only are farmers and farm workers harmed -- research shows that children and families living near agricultural areas suffer serious short and long term health problems from exposure to these pesticides.

Mandate to Protect Human Health and the Environment Threatened

Support thousands of EPA scientists who put their jobs on the line by going public because EPA administrators appear to be colluding with pesticide manufacturers, valuing corporate profit over risks to the health of workers, farmers, children and consumers. EPA must not buckle under corporate pressure. These hazardous pesticides must not be registered.

Take Action Now!
