Contact Governor Taft

The Ohio "lame-duck" House and Senate, without public hearing or input, has just passed SB 117, a bill that does substantial damage to consumers and honest businesses. The law, if signed by the governor, significantly limits the damages available to consumers victimized by predatory mortgage lenders and other unscrupulous businesses. The law would greatly diminish the consequences to a business who violates Ohio's Sales and Practices Act and damages the ability of honest businesses to compete against their rogue competitors.

Subject: Please Veto SB 117

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Last week, the Ohio House and Senate, without any input or testimony from the public, passed SB 117, a bill that inappropriately weakens Ohio's Consumer Sales and Practices Act. The bill, if signed into law would not only cause great harm to consumers who have been victimized by predatory mortgage lenders and other unscrupulous business, but would also damage honest businesses who will no longer be able to effectively compete with their less honorable competitors who no longer will fear the consequences of violated our state's consumer protection statute.

Governor Taft, consumer and honest business' need you to be their champion and veto this ill-conceived and cynical piece of legislation. I thank you for your time and thoughtful consideration of my vital request.

Sincerely,
