Hiddo took up his post in Washington this past September, replacing Nikos Zaimis. He has been with the European Commission since 1989, and has participated in many trade negotiations, including the Uruguay Round, China and Russia's negotiations to enter the WTO, and the Doha Round. He joined European Commissioner Peter Mandelson's Cabinet in 2004, and later that of Commissioner Ashton in 2008, working on the trade portfolio as well as on financial market and energy legislation issues.
