Tell Congress to make sure people with AIDS aren't put out on the street
The Bush Administration is capping emergency and transitional housing benefits for people with AIDS to 24 months, as of March 27. For many, that assistance is the only thing standing between them and the street. When this rule was first proposed in December of 2007, hundreds of groups voiced their opposition. Despite these widespread objections, the administration is moving forward with this cruel policy change.
Tell your members of Congress to fight back on behalf of those with HIV and AIDS and demand withdrawal of this harmful cap on housing benefits!

Subject: Please ask for withdrawal of Housing Policy Notice 99-02 Amendment 1
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to ask that you contact Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt and urge that he withdraw the new amendment limiting Ryan White emergency and transitional housing benefits to 24 months.
For many people living with AIDS, these transitional housing dollars are the only thing standing between them and homelessness. Not only does this amendment threaten to put people on the street, it fails to account for people who are intermittently homeless and may periodically need the benefit.
Hundreds of organizations voiced their strong opposition to this change when it was first proposed in December of 2007. Despite this, the policy has been finalized.
This amendment took effect on March 27 and requires immediate response. I hope you will voice your dissent of this policy today.
Sincerely,
