Show Your Thanks for the $225 Million EPF
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION FUND RECEIVES $225 MILLION APPROPRIATION
Last week, just before state legislators adjourned for the summer, Governor George Pataki, Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver approved a $225 million appropriation for the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) for 2006-2007. A $100-million increase over the 2004-2005 figure, the money will be used to fund critical projects in the Hudson Valley and around the state -- from waterfront-revitalization programs and community parks to farmland protection.
We're inviting you to write a letter to these leaders, expressing your appreciation for their support of a cleaner, healthier environment. Personal letters have the most impact, so feel free to customize the sample letter if time permits.

Subject: Thank you for the Environmental Protection Fund
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As a member of Scenic Hudson, I want to thank you for approving the $225-million appropriation for the Environmental Protection Fund in the state's 2006-2007 budget. The $100-million increase in EPF funding over the last two years is critical for programs that protect our land, water and air -- in the Hudson River Valley and around the state.
LEAVING A LEGACY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
New Yorkers have a longstanding tradition of working together to ensure that our children live in healthy communities and enjoy clean water, clean air, protected open space, working farms and neighborhood parks. This appropriation represents a significant, positive step toward renewing that commitment and leaving a legacy for a cleaner environment for future generations.
A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION TO THE QUALITY OF LIFE
The EPF you expanded will contribute positively to the safety, health and quality of life for all New Yorkers. We appreciate and laud your commitment to protecting the people and natural resources of our state.
Sincerely,
