SPEAK OUT: Tell the DEC to do the right thing for Sleepy Hollow
TELL THE DEC: WE NEED TO GET IT RIGHT IN SLEEPY HOLLOW
The village of Sleepy Hollow is about to complete its review of Lighthouse Landing, Roseland Properties' 97-acre proposed development on the site of the former General Motors plant. The plans call for 1,250 housing units, a 110-room hotel, office and retail space as well as parks. However, before anything can be built the law specifies that the site must be "remediated" or cleaned up.
Recently, the New York state Department of Conservation issued a draft decision to evaluate the the cleanup measures proposed by by Roseland Properties. The state plan does call for a stricter cleanup than the one proposed by the developer, but our experts here at Scenic Hudson have determined that it does not go far enough.

Subject: Clean Up Lighthouse Landing to the Highest Standards
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As a Scenic Hudson member, I'm writing to urge the DEC to adopt the very highest cleanup standards for the remediation of the former General Motors site in Sleepy Hollow.
Like Scenic Hudson, I feel that leaving high levels of contaminants -- particularly lead -- at the site is unacceptable.
I also feel that the buffer being set aside by the developer must be cleaned up to stringent ecological standards so that everyone in our region can benefit from the ecological restoration of a new branch of the Pocantico River.
Finally, I want to urge the agency to expedite a thorough cleanup the contaminated sediment off the shores of Sleepy Hollow.
Sincerely,
|
