ACT NOW: Comment on Hudson's Waterfront Plan
As a Hudson resident, you've got a limited time -- just until May 16 -- to help preserve a positive future for your waterfront. Don't miss your chance to comment on the City of Hudson's draft "Local Waterfront Revitalization Program" (LWRP) plan.
The draft LWRP reflects more than a year of research by the city to create plan for its waterfront. The city held numerous public hearings and prepared the draft plan with input from local residents, businesses, land owners and community organizations.
Scenic Hudson has been working with the LWRP committee and Common Council members to help shape the LWRP and responsible zoning. The draft plan shows that city has made some progress, but as you can see from the sample letter, we still have fundamental concerns about impacts from potential waterfront industrial operations. Unless changes are made to the plan, these operations could prevent the waterfront from becoming the public and natural resource that the community has called for.
It's easy to voice your opinion
Express your views about the plan to city officials by sending a letter using the form below. We've drafted a sample letter reflecting some of Scenic Hudson's concerns about the plan that you can personalize as you see fit. Remember, a personalized letter has the most impact.
Thanks for all that you do.

Subject: Please make sure the LWRP limits industrial usage
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Thank you for this opportunity to comment on the city's draft Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP). While much is positive, I have concerns about proposed industrial uses and how the southernmost portion of the waterfront is used. As a Scenic Hudson member, I urge you to keep the following recommendations in mind:
CLARIFY INDUSTRIAL USES
I'm deeply concerned about impacts from potential waterfront industrial operations, that could prevent the waterfront from becoming the public and natural resource that the community has called for. The City of Hudson, St. Lawrence Cement (SLC) and O&G Industries must develop a clear concept for how SLC lands will be used, and determine potential impacts on adjacent public land and the restoration of South Bay. Issues to be addressed include the number of barges and trucks operating, emissions and noise from machinery, and hours of operation.
CREATE HUB ON WATERFRONT'S SOUTHERN PORTION
A more active recreation component should be added to the southern waterfront park; otherwise, it could become neglected. One possibility would be to add more active recreation opportunities, such as a small ball field.
EXTEND WARREN STREET BUSINESS DISTRICT TO WATERFRONT
In the Draft LWRP, the Hudson Power Boat Association (HPBA) parking lot consumes valuable waterfront land. By moving the HPBA, the Central Business District could be extended to the waterfront.
I hope you will take these issues into consideration. They will help create a safe, healthy and prosperous waterfront that all residents can enjoy.
Sincerely,
|
