Archaeologists from Michigan Tech will lead memorable tours of the foundry, a 19th-century technological powerhouse, at the 5th annual "Day at the Foundry." The ironworks made steam engines, mill equipment, Parrott guns that helped win the Civil War, as well as massive pipes for NYC's water system. After the archaeologists give you a tour of the dig site, you can explore nearby wildlife, a waterfall and a marsh.

Wednesday, July 25, 9 a.m. - 12 noon

Participants will learn the basics of trail maintenance and construction, as well as the craft of working with stone, a handy skill for home landscaping projects. Orientation, training, work gloves and light snacks provided.

Saturday, Aug. 4, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Enjoy stunning Hudson River and Highlands views and hear the inspiring story about how Scenic Hudson saved this spectacular mountain from becoming the site of an enormous hydroelectric plant. This exhilarating 4-mile round trip starts at our new Helen and Esty Stowell Trailhead in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Morning: Enjoy a spectacular mountaintop—and a bluegrass breakfast—at Gateway to Mount Beacon Park.

Noon: Be our guest for a riverside picnic and family-oriented nature activities.

Late Afternoon: "Lazy, Hazy, Family Fun Day" at Poets' Walk Park.
