Santorum Book Criticizes Working Mothers

Rick Santorum's new book has the following to say about working mothers:

"In far too many families with young children, both parents are working, when, if they really took an honest look at the budget, they might confess that both of them really don't need to, or at least may not need to work as much as they do."

Bob Casey has a much different view on the current financial situations of hard working families in Pennsylvania and recently released this statement:

"For many Pennsylvania families, having a stay-at-home mother is simply not an option if they want to make ends meet. Mr. Santorum is clearly out of touch with the economic realities many families are facing. Accusing these working mothers of being selfish or bad budgeters is simply wrong and sadly ironic given the lack of fiscal discipline Mr. Santorum has shown with our federal budget."

Bob Casey to run for U.S. Senate in 2006
March 4, 2005

Pennsylvania State Treasurer Bob Casey said today that he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2006 against incumbent Republican Senator Rick Santorum.  Casey will make a formal announcement of his candidacy at a later date.

“As Senator, I will fight everyday to put middle-class families first,” Casey said. “Pennsylvanians have seen first-hand the devastating effects of unfair federal trade policies that are causing us to hemorrhage jobs and of rising health care costs that are squeezing family budgets and destroying the ability of our businesses to make a profit and hire new workers.”
