CALL ON SCHWARZENEGGER TO MEET WITH FAMILIES!
CALL ON SCHWARZENEGGER TO MEET WITH FAMILIES! California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced this week that he intends to veto the marriage equality legislation passed by both the Assembly and Senate. In a blatant attempt to pander to a right-wing base just months before a special election in which he is courting their support, he has gone back on his view that same-sex marriage is "fine by him". He may think that this is purely a matter of political positioning. We need him to understand how insulting, and harmful, his veto will be to real California families. He says he thinks this decision should be one made by the "people", yet he is disregarding the voice of the people's representatives - elected state legislators. Well, we ARE the "people" of California, and we will make sure he knows what the people think! Call his office, today. Send him an e-mail. Tell him to meet with real California same-sex families before he acts on this bill. Tell him he has a responsibility to listen to the stories of families hurt by discrimination – discrimination he will endorse if he vetoes marriage equality.
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , Your expected veto of marriage equality legislation will hurt me and my family. As a Californian, I expect more of my government. You have an opportunity to show moral leadership and support equality, but instead you plan to reaffirm discrimination. Please meet with real families that will be hurt by your veto before you act. It's important that you know the real impact your veto will have on hard-working families in our state. I know that our stories will move you. This decision is about more than politics. It's about the fair treatment of Californians. Please, rethink your position. And meet with our families before you act. Don't we deserve at least that?
Sincerely, |
