TAKE ACTION: Californians Need Your Help Now!

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced his intent to veto landmark marriage equality legislation when it reaches his desk. We need your help to change his mind. Thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people from all across the country have been sharing their stories with the governor and those close to him — helping him to understand the leadership opportunity he has, and how a veto would hurt real families.

Today is an important day in the effort to convince the governor to sign the bill. At the end of the week, the bill that has already passed both the Assembly and the Senate will get to his desk. Today, we need you to take action.

Call California First Lady Maria Shriver

Phone lines to the governor's office have been jammed with people registering their opinions about marriage equality. We need to make sure those close to the governor — including the First Lady — understand the impact of the governor's decision. First Lady Maria Shriver has been a strong and compassionate advocate for families in California. In a brief message, let her know that California LGBT families deserve the same rights and protections as her own family. Call her at 916.445.2841.

The governor has said he wants to be a "different kind of leader," one who isn't ruled by politics alone. He has in front of him an opportunity to show real leadership, and take a bold stand for equality. His decision affects the progress of equality across our country.
