The State of Kansas has asked United Animal Nations to deploy Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS) volunteers to assist with a shelter in Pratt, Kansas, that has become overwhelmed with cats and dogs and is in urgent need of temporary emergency animal sheltering assistance. For more background information about this situation, please see the Action Report or this press release. Trained EARS volunteers can also access the message board.
We have enough EARS volunteers at this time. We have also filled the need for animal control officers at this time.
EARS volunteers are needed to do the following:
- Animal feeding and attention
- Paperwork, animal record documentation and other administration
- Cage cleaning, maintenance and shelter repair
- Donated supply sorting and distribution
Special notes about this response:
- Be prepared for quarantine conditions.
- Work conditions are generally very hot and humid, and the weather has included severe rain.
- EARS volunteers may register to bring a non-EARS volunteer with them to volunteer.
- Volunteers are sleeping in shared college dormitory rooms.
- Limited financial assistance with transportation expenses is available.
- As with most disasters, conditions and response circumstances are largely beyond our control and can change at any moment.
