UAN's Humane Education Ambassador Reader (HEAR) program helps children explore the human-animal bond through stories and discussion. HEAR volunteers visit after-school programs, classrooms, animal shelters and youth groups to read to children and lead discussions -- helping children develop critical thinking skills and empathy.
Training includes:
- brief overview of the history of humane education
- using questions to generate critical thinking
- tips for reading aloud
- the relationship between reading and developing empathy
- implementing HEAR discussion guides
Sign up on this page to indicate your interest in learning more about the process to become a HEAR volunteer. We welcome interest from all regions of the United States and Canada and will base future training locations on this interest.
